Silence of a Tree by Gloria Campbell

$275.00

mixed media (acrylics, found and painted papers, ink, tape) on wood cradle board

7” W x 18" H

The inspiration for Silence of a Tree is the healing power of "Mother Nature." A few years ago, an especially destructive wildfire swept through northern Colorado. The Camera Peak fire burned more than 208,000 acres and destroyed nearly 500 structures.

The devastation of the forest was heartbreaking and I assumed it would take years for the land to recover.

A mere 11 months after the fire, I made my first visit up Poudre Canyon--an area most impacted by the flames.

It was hard to see all the scorched earth and fallen trees but one tree caught my eye. It was tall and thin, standing like a blackened figure. AND it was surrounded by green grasses and even a few saplings. The sky was an especially vivid blue that day and rather than being discouraged by the memory of the fires, I was, instead, optimistic.

That tree has stayed with me and Silence of a Tree is the result.
